Gabby Barber, Undergraduate Associate
Gabby Barber (they/she) is a fourth year Cultural Anthropology honours student at the University of Calgary. As a lesbian who has lived in Alberta for most of their life, Gabby is interested in 2SLGBTQIA+ life throughout the province, but is particularly interested in rural Alberta because of the (very untrue!) idea that queer people only live in metropolitan areas. They also believe that it is essential to highlight and uplift all communities, but especially ones that tend to be overlooked. After being granted a PURE (Program for Undergraduate Research Experience) Award, Gabby has been able to conduct research throughout central rural Alberta focusing on queer experiences. Looking to the future, they hope to continue in their research because they feel that it’s important to make sure queer voices are amplified.
